I don't know what is going on here, but I'm still not able to load any pictures. In the meantime, check out our school's website:
From there, you can select "Teacher Websites", and then "Mrs. Slyter". Or try clicking here. If - or when - I get this up and running again, I'll let you know!

Math Time
We started the year off with a lot of review. We spent a lot of time working with, and practicing number sense and the 100's chart. One of our favorite ways to practice is with games. This one is called "Die Plus One". You toss the die, add 1 to the number rolled, and mark it on the chart. If that number is already covered up, you lose a turn! At the end of the game, count up the colored circles... the person with the most wins!

Homework News
First of all, thank you so much for making the time to come to conferences. In our busy lives, I appreciate the time to touch base with you! =)
Secondly, you may notice that homework looks different now. We started the year with a lot of review & practice of high frequency words, and now we're starting routine spelling lists. Practicing our words is now part of the homework. The first two nights are working with letter cards to build the words. Wednesday and Thursday are practicing writing the spelling words, and Thursday is a practice spelling test with an adult. We'll have our spelling tests in class on Fridays.
The math looks a little different as well. It's still a page of math per night, but I feel like we're ready for work that is more rigorous. =) Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns!

One of the things we talked about in the first few weeks of school was the elements of design in art. We practiced using all different kinds of lines, dots, and circles to create many drawings and illustrations.
Then we took our drawing skills "to the streets". We used those lines, dots and circles to create masterpieces with chalk on the sidewalk next to our room.

It was a beautiful day. Perfect for chalk art!! =)

Easing Back In...
I've been back in the classroom... slowly, but surely!
A few projects that I've been tackling:
Our Word Wall
The calendar and math area.
I have been *loving* my summer, but I am definitely starting to think about a new group of second graders and what a great year we're going to have! =)

The end of the school year is always bittersweet for me. I'm looking forward to spending time with my girls, camping, reading, taking naps :)... but I miss my sweet second graders. I hope everyone has a fantastic summer!

Field Day
Field day was originally scheduled for Friday, June 8... along with Camp Linwood. But, the weather forecast didn't look very good, so we moved it to Monday June 11. Thank goodness!! It poured down rain on Friday, and Monday was beautiful. We had so much fun... what a great way to end the year!
