Another thing that kept us busy in February was learning about many famous African Americans. This month it was the 2nd grade's turn to "perform" at the Friday Morning Meeting. Using the letters from Linwood's monthly theme - cooperation - we created a presentation about African American history.
Some of the kids read the information, while others held up the letters.
They all did a great job! And, it went along great with our weekly story, "African American Inventors".

Friendship Party!
Whew! What a fun day! Our math activity involved working with candy hearts. I overheard someone say, "This is math??". Love it! :)
Our party was later that afternoon. We had fun decorating sugar cookies... many of them were loaded with sugary goodness. (Sorry, moms and dads!)
The highlight of our day was unloading our Valentine holders and opening Valentines.
Even with all of the chaos and excitement of the day, the kids were so sweet to each other. :) They were all so thankful for each and every Valentine they opened.

Heart Art
We used paper hearts - and our imaginations - to make our own Heart creations. I love how creative the kiddos were... their pictures turned out great! :)
| This picture is actually titled "Self-Portrait". :) |

Hello!
Sorry I've been MIA lately! We've been so busy this month... lots going on in room 115. :)
Backing up to... Groundhog Day
We read Geoffrey Groundhog Predicts the Weather and then made our own predictions about what the famous groundhog would discover. We also did a bit of research on the groundhog; he has been making weather predictions for over 122 years!
The next day, we watched the "big reveal" with Punxsutawney Phil in Pennsylvania... and those of us who voted for 6 more weeks of winter were proven correct. (Judging by the snow that has been falling off and on lately, Phil knows his stuff!)

Valentines
We've been collecting empty milk jugs the last few weeks to make our Valentine holders, The kids got to choose from a bear, dinosaur, or cat template in which to create their containers. After decorating the animals and gluing them to the milk jugs, we set them out to wait for our Friendship Party.
| They all turned out so cute! |
