Ten Things About Mrs. Slyter

10. I originally interviewed for my first job at Linwood Elementary as a first grade teacher. (This was not my first choice, but I really wanted to get my foot in the teaching door.) I didn't get that job... but the principal called me back for another interview - at 4th grade. (More my style!) I was offered the job in August of 1995. Yea!

9. I've been teaching at Linwood since then. :)

8. I knew my husband was "the one" as soon as I met him. We were engaged and married within 10 months. We just celebrated 11 years last week.

7. I *love* to read. My bookshelve(s), nightstand, and many other places in the house are stuffed with books. My husband wishes I would just stick with the library...

6. I *love* to scrapbook and make cards. I'm lucky enough to have a craft room where I can escape every now and then. (Unfortunately, it gets pretty dusty during the school year!)

5. My favorite stores are Barnes & Noble, any office supply store, scrapbook stores, and Target.

4. My sister introduced me to blogging in 1997. I started with our family blog, and eventually started one for the classroom. My goal is to keep up with them regularly during the school year.

3. This is going to be my first year teaching 2nd grade. I'm so excited for a fresh start and a "clean slate". As soon as I heard I was moving to 2nd, I began scouring the internet for ideas. This is when I discovered so many wonderful blogs!

2. I sometimes have very mixed emotions about being a working mom. I absolutely love my job and I can't imagine doing anything else. However, there are days when I feel very guilty and wish I were at home full time.

1. Because I am a working mom, I am always trying to find the right amount of balance. (Is there such a thing??) There are some days when I walk away from my classroom even though it's a disaster, and my to-do list is still a mile long... but my beautiful girls always come first. :)
